5 lakh solar study lamp scheme is the solar study lamp scheme implemented by IIT Bombay, and jointly funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Idea Cellular Pvt. Limited. At the grassroots level, the project is implemented by the partnering Non-Governmental Organizations, including Gram Vikas Trust (GVT) and BAIF Development Research Foundation as well as the State Rural Livelihood Mission including Rajeevika. Currently, the scheme is being implemented in the states of Bihar, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The scheme was initiated in June, 2017. More than 1 lakh lamps have already been distributed under the scheme. The scheme is currently operational in 10 blocks with 8 Assembly Distribution Centres, a physical location where the lamps are assembled by the local people, are actively involved in the distribution of the lamps.
