About

Open-source solar solutions is a platform for PCB hardware design of different solar off-grid products like study lamp, lantern, torch, home lighting system, amongst many others. SoULS initiative of IIT Bombay has played an instrumental in developing such Hardware, which is necessary for the manufacturing of Solar products to promote localization of solar technology. Through this platform the design files of PCBs are made available for all allowing and encouraging its use of manufacture of hardware based on design, further innovation and modification. The open-source solar solutions enable easy assembly, repair and maintenance of the product. All the open-source PCBs that are available here can be used in different solar products with minimum customizations. The hardware's source, the design from which it is made, is available in the preferred format (PCB schematic, gerber layouts, source codes etc.) to facilitate easy making modifications to it. All the PCBs available in this platform are tested rigorously with different solar products.

Guidelines

Before using the designs, check the technical parameters of the PCB available on the website. The developed PCBs perform best only when used with the mentioned ratings. The design can be modified or components can be changed for any customized use. The source codes and hardware designs provided on this website is compatible ONLY with the specified BOM and not with products of other make. The hardware designs are released in “as-in” basis by SoULS Initiative, IIT Bombay, with no representation or warranties of any kind. IIT Bombay will not be liable to you or any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages arising out of the use or inability to use the open hardware design. No additional permission is necessary from IIT Bombay to use the hardware designs.

FAQ

    1. Is there any solar products developed with the available hardware designs?
Ans: Yes. Click here to view the developed solar products
    2. Can I use any microcontroller with the same source code?
Ans: No. The source code having specific libraries, which are compatible to the specified BoM given
    3. Can I change the shape of the PCB designs?
Ans: Yes. One can change the PCB shape as per his own dimensions. However, bad laying up might leads to the less efficiency.
    4. Can I change the source code as per design?
Ans: Yes. One can modify the code as per their ratings. However, performance might vary with the original available
